Pinal County Public Safety Radio Upgrade for Motorola Mammoth, Arizona

Pinal County Public Safety Radio Upgrade for Motorola Mammoth, Arizona

Oldcastle Infrastructure Chandler, Arizona manufactured and fully outfitted the 12‐foot by 26‐foot precast concrete, custom communications building for Motorola which houses a communications and generator room.

Communications equipment is sensitive and expensive. Precast concrete buildings are ideal for communications shelters as they are highly customizable to meet the exact specifications. The buildings are customized with cable racks, trays, electrical systems, static grounding wires and more.

The precast concrete communications building arrived on‐site as a complete structure that was fully‐outfitted and ready to use in a few hours. The entire production process took place in a climate‐controlled facility, which eases the need for cumbersome site equipment and staging areas and with in‐house quality control inspections there are fewer unexpected on‐site complications during the construction process.

PERRIS, Calif. (December 20, 2017)

Oldcastle Infrastructure Perris Facility Attains 2 Years with Zero OSHA Recordable Injuries

Oldcastle Infrastructure Perris Facility Attains 2 Years with Zero OSHA Recordable Injuries

No Oldcastle Infrastructure Perris employee has missed time, been restricted or transferred because of injury since October 2015

Another perfect year for employee safety for Oldcastle Infrastructure Perris, which operates one of Oldcastle’s prestress/precast manufacturing plants. The companies approximately 50 employees combined to work roughly 927,429 without any Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)‐recordable.

Due to extraordinary safety efforts, the Oldcastle Infrastructure Perris team surpassed the two‐year safety milestone on October 15, 2017.

Maintaining the highest standards of safety for our employees, as well as our customers and communities, is our top priority at Oldcastle Infrastructure. It’s essential in potentially hazardous work environments like ours, and every employee is dedicated to putting safety first.

Southern Cal Area Safety Manager Adriana Ramirez commented, “Two years of recordable free incidents is an amazing accomplishment!  The team has definitely come a long way from 5 years ago and their safety commitment has just gotten stronger!  There is a sense of family throughout the plant that is contagious and a joy to be around.   Great job Team!  Keep on going home SAFE!”

“I am very proud of the Perris team and the remarkable safety results over the past two years,” said Todd Ebbert Southern Cal Regional General Manager. “This is another example of a motivated team all heading in the same direction with the goal of viewing each task through the lens of safety and wellbeing for each member. Congratulations to the entire Perris group”

Perris Site Manager Scott Hicks added, “When we passed the one year mark a year ago we were overwhelmed with what an accomplishment that was. Now that we have made it two years we have come to understand that our achievement is monumental. It has only been possible through the collective efforts of our production crews, office personnel, and management that we have been able to accomplish this. Our production employees have been instrumental in our success by believing in themselves and looking out for each other daily. They care about each other not just as co‐workers but also like family. We are very proud to have reached this milestone and are looking towards making it another year injury free, one day at a time.“

Recognizing the team’s hard work and dedication to safety, employees and their families were treated to a day of carnival games, jump houses, face painting, and of course lots of catered food. Each employee was given a commemorative jacket and small pocket knife in honor of their pursuit of safety excellence.

HAWLEY, Mass. (December 9, 2017)

Mass DOT Replaces Savoy Road Bridge over the Chickley River Using Accelerated Bridge Construction

Mass DOT Replaces Savoy Road Bridge over the Chickley River Using Accelerated Bridge Construction

Bridge substructure is composed of all precast concrete bridge components for fast‐track construction

Partnering with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, engineering firm McFarland Johnson and general contractor Clayton D Davenport Trucking, Oldcastle Infrastructure Rehoboth, Mass. provided the precast concrete bridge components for the entire substructure, besides the footings, to replace the Savoy Road Bridge over the Chickley River. The MassDOT project consisted of replacing the existing bridge with a new bridge using concrete NEXT beams and precast concrete substructures. The bridge carries a 17‐foot vehicular roadway, with curbs on both sides of the bridge. The project limit extends approximately 200 feet north and 250 feet south of the bridge. Approach work consisted of reconstruction of the roadway guardrail.

In all, Oldcastle Infrastructure Rehoboth manufactured ten abutment stems ‐ (5′ x 4′ x 11’‐6″ tall); four abutment caps ‐ (12′ x 4′ x 2′ tall); four curtain walls ‐ (5′ x 4′ x 18’‐9″ tall); and eight wingwalls‐ (5’‐6″ x 3’‐ X 18′ tall) to construct the replacement bridge on Savoy Road.

The use of precast concrete bridge components allowed for the rapid construction of the bridge substructure. The bridge abutments were delivered, installed, and grouted over a 2‐day span.

Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC): ABC is bridge construction that uses innovative planning, design, materials, and construction methods in a safe and cost‐effective manner to reduce the onsite construction time that occurs when building new bridges or replacing and rehabilitating existing bridges.

ABC improves site constructability, total project delivery time, and work‐zone safety for the traveling public. In addition, ABC reduces traffic impacts, onsite construction time, and weather‐related time delays.

A common reason to use ABC is to reduce traffic impacts because the safety of the traveling public and the flow of the transportation network are directly impacted by onsite construction‐related activities.
