Littleton Takes Part in Denver’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Oldcastle Infrastructure Littleton, Colorado participated in this year’s 55th St. Patrick’s Day parade, on March 11th, in Denver. The parade is one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the nation, averaging over 3 hours.

Though it was a cold and wet morning on parade day, twenty‐six Oldcastle Infrastructure employees and family members joined together to add the last decorations and banners before the parade started.

“As we maneuvered through downtown Denver, in our bright green Oldcastle Infrastructure St. Patrick’s Day T‐shirts, we handed out candy and beads to the onlookers. Seeing the joyful faces of the children and adults was priceless,” said Lyle Weisbeck, Oldcastle Infrastructure Plant Manager. “We even heard someone in the crowd say “Hey, that’s an Oldcastle manhole”. Consequently, we had a great time, we advertised to over 350,000 onlookers, promoting our product and OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) status.”

Safety awareness was essential in the construction of the Littleton float.  The Littleton fabrication shop made custom built trailer hand rails for the float and a stand down safety talk was given by truck driver Mike Switzer, before the parade started.

“I wanted this to be a family affair and I believe we achieved this goal. Employees are already coming up with ideas for next year’s endeavor which was encouraging to hear. We are looking forward to our 2018 float entry and hope to see greater employee participation, joining in the fun and excitement of the event. Thank you to everyone that helped in making this a success,” stated Lyle.

Oldcastle Infrastructure Lexington marks one year without a lost‐time accident

Steaks and speeches were included on December 13, 2016 in celebrating one year without an OSHA lost time accident at Oldcastle Infrastructure’s production facility in Lexington, Ky.

November 6, 2016 marked the official day for achieving this milestone and to date, the Lexington facility has gone 423 days since their last recordable accident. “This last year, our team has truly concentrated on the daily fundamentals. Numerous improvements have been made, but none as important as safety. I am proud that our team made the decision to do all they could, each and every day, to see that each person made it home safely to their families,” said General Manager Jeff McKinley, addressing all the manufacturing employees gathered for the celebration event. “After our last accident, we decided as a group, to not concentrate on making it a month, or quarter, or year, we were going to stay focused on that day, then the next, and so on. Win today and the milestone celebrations will take care of themselves. That is what our team has done.”

In addition, Area Safety Manager Jennifer Dominick remarked, “The journey to becoming injury free for one year starts day by day. Each day without an injury or significant incident is a win for the entire team. Our accomplishments stem from all of the daily proactive measures we take to achieve higher heights within the 5 daily fundamentals. We are all extremely proud of each other and look forward to accomplishing another day, week, month, year, without an injury”.

Plant Manager Mark Pedron was exceptionally pleased with their accomplishment and added, “The team has made great strides in improving safety in our operation and this milestone reflects that commitment of improvement. I am proud of our team.”
